Q.Sago Palm

Anonymous added on August 18, 2015 | Answered

I believe I have a Sago Palm going by the pictures I’ve seen on the Internet. Every so often the plant has one or two stems grow out from the middle of the bulb mass and I don’t know what to do with them. Right now the fronds are turning yellow and brown and they tend to do this when the stems grow out. Every article I’ve read doesn’t mention anything about these stems. What are they? I’ve seen nothing to indicate that I have neither a male or female plant.

These are likely new leaves, but if the plant is not be getting enough light, they will become long and leggy. For additional sago info (and a pic --scroll down), this link will help: http://www.rhapisgardens.com/sagos/
