Sago Palm

I have a very large Sago palm in width and height (approximately 7′ tall). I would like to reduce the height to 4′ feet and keep the large pups at the base. My question is: Can the trunk of the Sago be cut to 4′ and not harm the plant?

Sagos usually don’t take that well to pruning, especially if it’s drastic. It is hard to say how well it will grow back, if at all. In addition, the fronds will help protect the plant over winter, so I would put off any pruning until spring.
