Sago Palm

My sago palm plant which I planted in the ground near my front door, has grown too big. How hard will it be to dig up and transplant somewhere else in my yard?

Late Spring is a good time to move the Sago.
Water the palm well 48 hours prior to digging to loosen the roots and soil.
With a clean tool, snip off all the leaves except the top crown. Sago Palms will lose water through their leaves and removing them
will help with transplant stress.
You can also tie the fronds to the trunk.
Dig a trench 12″ around the trunk of the Sago, keeping the root ball intact.
A Sago is heavy and you will need help to move it to it’s new planting hole.
Plant it at the same depth–this is critical.
Fill in the soil and mulch, but keep the mulch from touching the base of the palm.
Water well and keep the root ball moist for the first 8 months.
