Sage Plant Leaf Tips Turning Brown

The tips of my sage plant leaves are turning brown and then eventually the whole leaf turns brown. Did I over water? Underwater? Any suggestions?

Is it container grown sage or sage in the ground? This will make a difference to the answer. Please let us know.
