Q.Saffron

Zone Trentham 3458 | Anonymous added on July 3, 2018 | Answered

Is it true that once saffron crop has been harvested, you rotate and cannot use that same plot for 4yrs.
Would it not be possible to re-mulch and fertilize leaving plot empty for the next 1 to 2 yrs then reuse.

There is some confusion here. Saffron bulbs multiply rapidly, so rapidly that they become crowded and less productive. For that reason, they should be dug up and thinned every 4-6 years. They can be replanted in the same location. I would add compost to the soil at that time.
