rubber tree plants

We have a rubber tree plant that is about 4′ tall and in very good health. I was wondering if it was ok to plant it outside and if there was anything special I would need to do to the soil. I live in midwest Georgia and our winters can get very cold but doesn’t stay cold for long periods and our summers can see 100 but the norm is around 93 to 95. As these tree’s can get up to 50′ I would think it would be ok but I am not sure. Thanks for your help.

A rubber tree is a tropical plant. That means that it can’t withstand temperatures below 45F for more than a few hours, and freezing temperatures will be death for it. That’s why there aren’t rubber trees growing all over Georgia. Your tree will be just fine if you keep it a nice pot, and take it outside for the summer r & r under the oak trees.
