Roses infected with witches broom

I have removed all of the rose bushes that were infected and also removed the soil at the base. Should I treat the soil around the area with an insecticide? How long should I leave the area alone before I could replant roses there? Are roses that do not appear infected but are close in proximity in danger? Is there anything I can do to protect the roses that were near the infected roses?

Yes the rosebushes nearby could be at risk. I would buy a good miticide and spray the other roses and the old planting area with that. Apply it at least a couple times according to the label instructions. There is some belief that the virus is spread by tiny mites, so spraying for them should help protect the other rosebushes.
