Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have two John F Kennedy hybrid tea rose bushes. One white and one yellow. For three years they have bloomed beautiful white and yellow roses. This year….much to my surprise….they both bloomed RED. What happened???? Nothing changed in my routine. Do you know why roses do this. They both came from Weeks Roses. I do not think that is the issue. But, can you think of any reason this happens. Weather? Soil? Thank you for any insight you may have.

Since the roses look completely different, chances are the upper part of the rose bush died and the rootstalk below the graft survived and bloomed. Many roses are grafted, which means the desirable rose is grafted onto a hardier rootstalk. If the suckers that come up from the rootstalk aren't removed, they can take over. Here is more:
