Q.Rose Tree How To Protect From Winter Freeze In NE OH.

Zone Youngstown, OH 44512 | Mary Robison added on October 1, 2021 | Answered

I had asked & received an answer, but I have a couple more questions. 1. Do I water in the winter since it is in an enclosed area, how much water also? 2. Should it be covered with plastic, cloth type material, or not covered at all? Top to bottom or just around the leaves & flowering area? Thank you.

Generally, you need to treat it as if it were during a slow growing season. If you have horticultural lighting, this will keep it growing as if it were the active growing season.

This means watering until you see water come out of the drainage holes, then allowing all extra water to leave the container freely. Do not water again until the top several inches are COMPLETELY dry.

Do NOT cover it. You will want to treat it as if it were, actively, growing.
