Rose query

My beautiful paper rose has died this year and I don’t know what it is. I have never seen anything like it and we have quite a few normal roses. This rose starts normal looking and opens up and has slightly rounder flower shape as it matures and the flower starts to age, rather that drop leaves. It becomes paper like and changes color, fading and becoming more paperlike. Never losing a petal. It dies intact before disappearing. Very interesting and fun I am desperate to find a new one. Sorry I accidently uploaded a lily along with the only photo I can find unexpectedly. Perhaps we should have reported this year. Hope I can replace. Thanks

I do not know of any classification or variety of rosebush named or referred to as Paper Rose. There is a song and a poem that mentions paper roses but not any actual rose. Look around the base of the rosebush and see if you can find a little name tag on the rosebush. If you can find such a tag, it will tell you the name of the rosebush. It sounds like you may have had a bad Thrips problem on the rosebush. It is best to use a systemic insecticide to get rid of them. Since they love to get deep inside the blooms to cause their problems, it is very hard to get to them with sprays. I would recommend using some Bayer Tree and shrub granules to control problems with a future rose. Look at some photos of roses at on-line rosebush sales nurseries such as Edmunds Roses and Roses of Yesterday and Today and find a rose you wish to try. You could also look at a website called High Country Roses in Denver, Colorado to find some delightful older and species rosebushes.
