Q.Rose Pruning Question
How do I prune my rose in attached photo? It is a number of years old and has had good growth at the top but, as you can see, the bottom half is bare. I have recently cut back the flowers and leaves in readiness for next year. I am inclined to cut it down low, but will that kill it? I am hoping that, if I cut it low, it will grow all up the wall, but any advice much appreciated! Thanks.

If that is a climbing rose, you should wait till after it blooms in the spring to cut it back. It may produce its buds on the previous season's growth and pruning it now may cut off all the flowers (which may have already happended). If it is a regular rose, you can cut it back by half now, then wait till early spring to finish cutting it back. It would also help to remove the vine at the base of the shrub. Here is more:
