Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHalf of our Rose of Sharon Tree is dead. The trunk appears split down the middle which has left one side full and beautiful and the other side stark although there is new growth below the barren branches. The tree is starting to become lopsided and will quite possible split further. We know we need to cut down the tree, but are not sure where and how to do this, so it has a chance of survival. Any recommendations?

You can cut this thing back to the ground completely, and it will still come back with a vengeance. If you would like, you can just take out the dying growth and leave what is still alive.
