Q.rose of sharon

Zone New england | Bovardim added on May 26, 2015 | Answered

Does this shrub/tree flower and leaf late? I just moved and a tree in the yard is a beautiful shape. Think it is a rose of Sharon but then again, more tree than shrub. It has no flowers or leaves on it as yet and this is late May. Some small branches are dead but most are not. Any ideas what it is and should I be patient?

Rose of Sharons typically don't leaf out until early summer. Here is a close-up photo of a rose of sharon's foliage to aid in your identification once it does start leafing out:

If the leaf doesn't match, then would you be able to share a photo with us? It would aid in our identification of your shrub.
