After digging the affected plant, do you shake off any soil possible or keep as much on as possible? What about soil left from around the hole--how much extra soil should be removed? Will the virus ever leave the soil or will it be there for some time?

I get rid of the soils in a 20 inch diameter by 18 inches deep and replace with good bagged garden soils and some compost. That usually gets rid of most of the little root fibers. Than plant a rosebush you love.
