Both rosebushes and holly tend to like more acidic soils and as long as you give them both growing room, separate them by about three feet. Just as you need to keep a rosebush pruned up to keep them in nice shape (floribundas, grandifloras and shrub roses), holly needs some pruning as well to keep it from becoming leggy and overgrown looking.
