Root System of Chindo Viburnum

I would like to plant a hedge of Chindo viburnum on one side of my house. The soil is rock hard clay. If I dig out the soil and replace it with good soil, how deep and wide do I need to dig? What is the best soil to put in?

My suggestion would be replace as much as you can! Or amending the soil as best you can, due to the fact that the Viburnum likes well draining loamy soil.
Viburnum does have a shallow root system. It gets it’s moisture for the first layers of the soil.
