Does a Lime tree have a tap root or spreading root?

They spread out. The root area is based on the size of the tree. Tree roots are generally located in the top eighteen inches of soil and the root system extends as much as two to three times the distance from the trunk to the dripline. For this reason, you should keep these trees, and other citrus, at least 8-10 feet away from any structures or plumbing lines.
