Root pruning

I have a Chinese Tallow Tree approximately 8-10 m tall with a trunk of 25 cm diameter at ground level. It has been in the ground approximately 4-5 years. The roots have become invasive under a paved path located just outside the drip line. Is it possible to prune the roots to stop it invading any further? What effect will it have on the tree. Some of the roots growing under the path are approximately 4-5 cm in diameter

No, you cannot root prune and stop the damage from the tree roots.
You may want to have an Arborist inspect the tree and determine how to remove to avoid further damage to your property.
