Q.rhubarb

My rhubarb plants (I have four, scattered about my garden) all produce huge leaves on very short stems. Rarely are the stems longer than 5 – 6 inches. I got them all from my sister about 4 years ago; in her garden, the stems were MUCH longer. Have I planted mine too deep? Is it possible that my soil is at fault? (I add lots of compost material to my soil.) What can I do?

The most likely issue is water. Water a couple times a week with a slow deep watering.
