Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI purchased a gardenia tree that is in a nursery pot. It has some buds and is leaning a good bit. Can I remove it from the pot and put it into a ceramic pot that is the same size without causing anymore stress than it already is going through? I know that it needs to be repotted with new soil after the blooming period. Will the old potting mixture be better for the plant than new fresh mixture? Also, there is no sign of roots showing out of the weep holes at the bottom of the pot.

If you don’t want to risk the blooms, I would simply leave it in the plastic pot and place that inside the pot that will be its home. After it is done blooming, then repot it.
You should always leave as much of the old dirt as possible. This will help reduce the chances of transplant shock.
