Replanting Lettuce

I am ready to harvest my green leaf lettuce, but would like to replant so I have it through the fall. When/how often do I replant? How late in the year can I plant it? How closely can I plant it to the lettuce already grown? (I have a 4 ft x 6 ft box garden, so not a ton of room. ) Also, when I cut my lettuce, will it grow back from that same plant this year? Or do I just leave it alone after I cut it, and rely on the new heads I’ve planted?

Leaf picking will prolong the life of the plant instead of cutting as a head.
As far as I know, all lettuce prefer cooler temps, so, keep this in mind.
I plant in waves in the spring. 2-3 weeks apart then again in the fall.
