Remove Grass Seed in Mulch Due to Mowing Disaster!

We live in a community and all of the yards are mowed by the same landscaping company. Each year freshly cut grass is blown on top of the flowerbed mulch during ‘sidewalk cleanup’. So far this year my husband has been hurriedly sweeping our sidewalks so the crew can skip our home for cleanup time. We are still trying to pull grass out of the flowerbeds – particularly in one section as soon as it comes up. Is there anyway to kill this grass without damaging the planted annuals? Or do we need to sacrifice the flowers in this area for a season to stop this weeding chore?

You might consider a conference with the landscaping company manager — perhaps they will be able to apply some herbicide for you, or refrain from blowing grass into your flower bed in the future.

Thank you so much Theficuswrangler! I just didn’t know where to begin or if it was even possible to kill the grass but not the bedding flowers. I am thrilled to learn this information. Thank you for bringing some sunshine to the possibilities that we can bring an ‘end’ to this problem.
We report the ‘blown grass on the mulch’ each year and it eventually gets better as more folks report the same experience to the property management company as per the community rules. It’s just frustrating that as the landscaping company seems to begin with an untrained crew each year that this aspect of concern is not part of the annual training.
