Redbud Tree not growing up but out

Hello
My Redbud Trees is grown out but very low to the ground and not growing up at all…it is it’s first year of planting. right now the measurements are about 4 feet tall and about 15 feet wide..is this normal? is there anything I need to do to make it grow up and not out?

This is common and pruning your redbud from a young age can get it into a desireable shape.
