Red Spider Mites

Why do I have red spider mites in my window sills when there are no plants inside the house and none on the outside walls where the spider mites are coming from? They are on two southwest-facing windows. I have cleaned daily for four days and still find the mites — even found one on my dresser on the opposite side of the room from the window. Do they bite humans or animals?

These are actually clover mites and they have nothing to do with plants in your house. They look exactly like Red Spider mites. They are harmless but annoying, coming in from outside through windows and doors. Clover mites are best controlled with a vacuum cleaner. Avoid crushing the mites, as they may leave a red stain. It is not recommended to use chemicals indoors for clover mites. A vacuum cleaner works just as well and eliminates pesticide exposure.
