Coconut problems

Recently it has been noticed that the fronds of the coconut tree are breaking from the middle. The axil leaf is still intact but is not opening. The trunk about 1 foot above the ground has gone soft. The tree is 10 to 12 yrs old and about 12 meters in height. What remedies should be adopted to save this tree? What can be the cause? Please help.

Unfortunately, it sounds as if the tree is suffering from a fungal or bacterial issue, or even root rot. Other than backing off watering and applying fungicide (if fungal related), there is little else you can do.
