Re-planting Japanese Maple

Hello
I have a japanese maple (acer palmatum shidare) that is getting leaf scorch as it is in full sun.
I would like to know if moving it to a shady spot and re planting it in a pot would be ok to do now, in summer (i am in Melbourne Australia)?
If i wait till the plant goes dormant in fall, I’m afraid it will be too damaged.

You have a couple of options. By the way, the tree is beautiful! Since summer is not the best time to relocate a plant, you could construct some shade now and wait till fall. You can attach screening material to poles or wood planks and erect it so it shades the tree. Also, keeping it well watered will help avoid leaf scorch.

If you are too anxious and want to move it anyway, you will need to keep it watered well before and after. That is the hard part. People generally forget to keep shrubs watered till they re-establish.

The article below says the weeping variety should have afternoon shade.
