Q.Purple Hyacinth Bean Vine
I have planted Purple Hyacinth Bean Vines for the past three growing seasons and have had very good luck. I’ve been saving seeds from the dried pods to grow the following year, and to share with friends. This year, the pods are not drying as early as they have in past years. It is November 1st and we’ve already had a light frost in northwest Indiana. Can the remaining mature pods be removed from the vine and allowed to dry indoors?
These have to be one of my favorite vines! I have harvested season after season of beans, and have had success germinating, even, 10 year old beans! These are very resilient, and will ripen to some degree off of the vine. Pluck all that you can, and some of them will ripen just fine. You may lose some, but you will have plenty for planting. I have done this many times with varying success. The larger pods will still germinate. The smaller pods will not be mature enough. Just make sure to turn the pods once or twice a day so they do not rot.
