purple fountain grass pruning in S. Florida

I planted purple fountain grass last March, in South Florida. It has gotten HUGE, and there is now a lot of dead stems and looks unsightly. Should I prune it down to promote new growth, or will new growth just replace the old dead growth? As we don’t have “winter” here, I’m not sure what to do. Thank you.

Yes, go ahead and prune it back but merely give it a good trim rather than a hard prune. Save that for late winter/early spring. Here is an article that you may find helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/fountain-grass/fountain-grass-pruning.htm [1]
