Pumpkin

I live in the Mojave Desert, Apple Valley, CA where temps in summer can reach 115 F. I have plenty of land; in fact, I have a veggie garden. Just wondering if they would grow with the desert heat. We get full sun all day and should I plant seeds about the second week in July?

Pumpkins can and will grow well in warm weather conditions.
Yes, July planting should be accurate. Always read the seed packets as they provide information as to the growing days from seed to harvest.
Here is a link about growing pumpkins.

I would give growing pumpkins a try. You can increase your chance of success by applying the knowledge in the article below which has many tips on the care of plants in hot weather. I also think that small and mini pumpkins would perform better in the desert than larger Jack-o’-lantern varieties. Pumpkins mature around 100-125 days so a mid-June to early July planting would ensure a pumpkin crop by mid-October.
