Pest Problem

Yesterday, after two days rain, I found lots of funny worms wiggling between leaves in different kinds of plants. I live in Toronto, Canada and this is the first time I noticed them. They are two times thicker than a human hair and 3-5 cm. They’re white and like to sit on the top of a plant. Help! I have children and a dog running in the garden.
