Pruning chicago hardy fig tree

When can I start pruning my Chicago Hardy fig tree? When I put in the ground this year, it was a little twig. Now it’s about 6 feet and about an inch in diameter. I had two figs growing, not to maturity though, they were plucked. If I top it off or prune, would it affect the crop?

Thank you,
Stephen.

Pruning is optional for figs, and is only necessary if you need to restrict the size of your tree. Here is some information on pruning fig trees:

Topping is not recommended.
