Pruning – Year old lemon tree

My lemon tree is rapidly branching out and now look unbalanced. Can i prune it now or should I wait till the autumn? I am located in the sunny Algarve.

Pruning is not always needed for a Lemon Tree, they often shape themselves into lovely specimens.
