Q.Pruning Squash

Anonymous added on June 15, 2011 | Answered

I read the article on pruning squash. My squash is taking over and desperately need to prune but I’m struggling a little with the terminology. I need the new gardener’s version of how to prune the plant. What does ‘Start by nipping out the tips’ mean? What’s nipping, and where are the tips? Appreciate the help!

The growing tip is simply new growth located in the tops of plants. These can be pinched or snipped (nipping) from th plant in order to produce a more compact growth habit or inhibit spreading.
