pruning sago

I moved a sago (about 3 feet tall) from next door, but during the moving I dropped the pot. I picked it up, put it back in the pot, put the dirt back around it, but afterwards it turned yellow and brown all over, so I cut it all the way back to the trunk (about 6″ high). Will it come back or shall I toss it?How much water does it need? How often? Thank you very much for your advice.

Generally, sagos don’t like hard pruning and may or may not regrow. That being said, they have been known to grow back beautifully. I have seen the sago palms pruned back so hard that there were just a few of the fronds in the center and the rest totally pruned back to the center hub. People thought the sago was a goner, but it grew just fine. With these plants, it’s pretty much a wait and see kind of thing.

In the meantime,wWater the plant until water comes out through the bottom (allow water coming out from the bottom to run out). The exact amount will vary depending on the size of the plant and its conditions. Allow the soil to dry before watering again.
