Pruning Red Hot Poker Plants

After reading both of your google articles, I’m confused. One states that you should cut back the plant in fall and mulch. The other states that you should keep the foliage until spring, because it protects the crown. Can you clarify which one is correct?

Wait till spring to cut the foliage back.
