Pruning or cutting back Crapemyrtle

Question

When is the best time to cut back the crepe myrtles in the east Texas area? My trees have gotten too top heavy and tend to fall over when the limbs get wet.

It is best in, either early spring, or late winter. Otherwise, you may affect flower production.
