Pruning of Eugenia bushes

I planted six Eugenia bushes this past October. They were about 6 ft at the time. They are now about 9 ft and 10 ft. I want them to grow into a tall edge. Is it okay to trim them now or in the fall? I wanted to trim them about 6″ or 8″ but I am told to leave them alone until it’s been at least a year since they were planted.

I need to know if I can trim them now during spring. I am unable to send any pictures. Thanks in advance for your help.

For a natural looking hedge you can prune once in spring, right after flowering and then again in the fall.
If you want a tight and formal hedge, pruning takes place year round, it is generally 6 prunes.
