Q.Pruning My Smoke Tree

Anonymous added on January 20, 2014 | Answered

My smoke tree is about 7 years old. It has 5 branches coming out of the trunk at its base. It is about 15 feet tall. I have trimmed off about 3 feet from the top each winter. Can I trim it back to about 3 to 4 feet so it is a bush instead of a tree?Thank you for your help.

As long as you don't cut back more than a third of its growth in one given year, it should be fine. This article will help with pruning your smoke tree: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/smoke-tree/pruning-smoke-trees.htm
