Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have 2 large autum blaze maples. The city came by last Fall and cut off at least 1/4-1/3 of the crown for power line encroachment. They did an awful job. Are the trees now more susceptible to disease and dying off? Is there anything I can do to help the trees?

Certainly improper pruning can lead to diseases, pests and even stability of a tree.
Tree topping; as to what you describe actually can lead to more growth appearing and even growth at a faster rate.
You may want to have the tree examined by a qualified Arborist.
