Pruning Fig Tree to Encourage Fruiting

I trimmed my fig tree first time last fall. Left 4 main wood stalks with some side shoots – height approx. 5-6′. Leaves coming out all over AND lots of shoots from the bottom. Only way I ever saw a fig previously was to let it have its way. Do I keep cutting the shoots off? They are lush and green. Tree about 4 years old, never had figs. How do I encourage fruit?

This article will help with pruning: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/figs/pruning-fig-trees.htm [1] You may need to add some phosphorus fertilizer, or bone meal, to the soil to help encourage fruiting.
