pruning crepe myrtles

Last winter I cut my out of control crepe myrtles all the way to the ground. They are now sending up a lot of shoots. Should I thin out these shoots to have three or four main trunks?

It depends on what you want. If you want it to regrow as a tree, then it would be best to choose a few strong suckers and remove the rest. But, if you would rather a shrub shaped plant to grow, you can let it go as it is.
