Pruning a Catawba Crape Myrtle

Question

I’m very excited about just purchasing an 18 inch Catawba Crape Myrtle (end of season shelf item from Walmart – $3!). I’ve seen varying descriptions of this tree/shrub and want to get the placement and pruning right. Is this something I can keep manageable to maybe 10-12 feet, and how do you recommend I do that? One source said it grows 20 feet or more. What say you?
