I could trim the new growth where it attaches to the main stem or cut the stem an inch above and below the new growth. The second method incorporates pruning the main plant in the process. Personally, I would wait until it is a few inches taller, but that will work if you choose to use it. Simply, cut it where it meets the branch. Apply a rooting hormone and keep the rooting mix slightly moist without being saturated or dry.
