Q.Problem With Dahlias

I grow several dahlias especially Bishop of Llandaff. The last couple of years I have noticed what can only be described as ‘scraping’ on the stems. The stem then snaps off. What could be the cause of this?

It could be cutworms. Take a flashlight out at night and look for the pests. Here is more on how to combat them:
