Print a cascading cherry tree

My tree is out of control!! There are a lot of thick mains that are poking out the sides and the tree looks goofy. If I prune those mains, won’t I have to cut close to the trunk? If I remove them it shouldn’t create any bare spots as the tree is mucho fullo! Any help is appreciated
