Prayer Plant

Question

My parents were given a prayer plant back when they married over 40 years ago. The original plant died about 3-4 years back, but it has one offshoot(?) that was growing but struggling. I would just let it go, but it ironically started to die when my mom passed away in April. I know it’s not linked, but to me the plant always had meaning and I always thought it was so amazing that a little plant could live for so long. I’ll include a picture of it below, but it seems to sprout leaves and maybe grows one or two and then the leaves go brown. I’ve replanted it in Miracle Grow potting soil and have taken it to my house and placed it in my upstairs bathroom as it’s probably the warmest and most humid area of my house. It also doesn’t seem to get direct sunlight and there is a big mirror that can spread more indirect light to it. I did notice that there were small metallic flecks right near the roots when I repotted it and carefully brushed them off. I don’t see any signs of bugs. I saw your website and would love any pointers to revive this somewhat heirloom of a plant. Thank you for your time and help.

What a wonderful story about your Prayer Plant.
From the image the soil looks quite damp. Make sure the soil is damp but not soggy. If the tiny roots sit in soggy soil they will rot.
Do not fertilize, this could burn the plant and roots. Just give it time.
