Q.Potted Holly plant showing red berries for a Christmas memorial

Zone Marble Hill, GA | Anonymous added on November 13, 2018 | Answered

I am trying to give a Christmas gift to a friend who recently lost her husband. I would like to give a potted holly plant with red berries (for Christian symbolic reasons it needs to have the red berries on it now) to use by the stone memorial with his metal service plaque which contains a place for his ashes and an eternal LED candle. This would be visible to her from her windows in the house. There is a stone sitting area surrounding this memorial. The holly plant could eventually be planted in the ground near the memorial. This memorial is in a deeply wooded area behind her house which sits on about 4 acres of forested, hilly land in north GA. I have been unable to find any holly plants with red berries either in the nurseries where I live in FL or online to have shipped to her.
Is there any such plant available now and will it continue to have red berries if it does not get much sunlight during the year? Will it live if planted in this location?
Can you help me determine a way to accomplish this gift? Thank you for your help.

Many will have berries at this time, as long as you purchase a female plant. Also most Hollies will survive in your area with very little care. I would ask your local nurseries to save any for you that are fruiting when it is close to time. You can ask online stores, but it is hard to know what you are getting that way. You best option would be to talk to your local nurseries, and see if they can help you with this task.
