potted gardenia

I have a gardenia that has gotten large and needs to be repotted. I don’t want the plant to get too much larger. If I keep it in the small pot it is in, will it hurt the plant? Can I repot it but maintain its current size?

You can keep it in its current pot as long as it drains well. Just repot as you would any houseplant but give the roots a good trim (which will help stunt growth in some plants) and then return it to the container with fresh potting soil and care as usual. Keep in mind that gardenias may require an occasional trim now and then to keep their size/shape maintained.
