Q.Potted Fig Tree Aprox 12″ High Live In NJ. Bring Indoors Or Leave Outside? Have No Basement Or Garage.

Zone Brick. NJ 08723 | Anonymous added on November 3, 2020 | Answered

Received potted fig tree as a gift. I live in NJ, should I bring it inside or leave outside for the winter? It is only approx. 12″ high. I have no garage and no basementand everything I read says keep in the dark and under 45 degrees. I have only heated space. I can keep it in a closet(for dark) but it will still be warm. Should I keep it by a window and treat it like a house plant? I can built a insulated wood box and keep it outside to winter. HELP !!

You're lucky to be living in Zone 7a - your fig can survive the winter outside. You'll need to create a way to protect it from the frost by either covering it with a large box or some kind of canopy with heavy material, like burlap or landscape cloth. Here's an excellent article that will help you get your little tree through the winter: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/figs/fig-cold-protection.htm
