It may already be lost. You can check by scraping off some of the bark. If it is green underneath, it is still alive. If it is brittle and white, it has succumbed.

If it is still green, start by repotting in a container one size up. Use fresh potting soil that is designed for acid loving plants. Then try pruning off the tips to get it going. Make sure it is getting plenty of water in a well drained soil.

If you have lost the camellia, you can plant another in his honor.
